One in two Canadians will face cancer in their lifetime. The effect will be life-changing for all. In an instant, powerful emotions, from shock and anger to sadness and fear will drown out everything. The Cedars Cancer Foundation is dedicated to easing the pain and suffering that cancer causes by raising funds required to support exceptional patient care, research, education, and support services to cancer patients. On April 5, 2020, I will be taking part in the inaugural Cedars Hockey to Conquer Cancer, a 3 on 3 tournament benefiting the Division of Radiation Oncology at the Cedars Cancer Centre of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
The mission of the Division of Radiation Oncology of MUHC is to provide compassionate, quality radiation treatments to both pediatric and adult cancer patients while integrating education, laboratory and clinical research to achieve the best possible outcomes. Radiation oncology is a truly multidisciplinary specialty where radiation oncologists work alongside medical physicists, radiation therapists, medical dosimetrists and radiation oncology nurses to plan and deliver quality radiotherapy treatments. The Division of Radiation Oncology at the Cedars Cancer Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that includes seven linear accelerators, including a Cyberknife M6 that allows for stereotactic radiotherapy treatments that are the pinnacle of precision, allowing to increase dose while reducing damage to adjacent tissue and thus side effects. We treat approximately 3000 patients per year, delivering more than 32,500 radiation treatments to patients of every age, from children only a few months old to patients older than 100.
We need your help to give patients access to specialized and ultra-specialized services that will offer them the best outcomes and quality of life… after all, they deserve a team that’s at the leading edge, using the most advanced technologies.
I’m playing hockey and raising funds to show my support. When it comes to making sure that cancer patients get the best care possible, I know that I’m doing something that will make a difference. Please help me help others by donating directly through this page - and show children and adults with cancer that they’ve got a great team behind them!
