The DOvEEgene Project is pushing the boundaries of ovarian and endometrial cancer screening with its new genomic uterine pap test, called the DOvEEgene test. Developed by Dr. Lucy Gilbert and her team of researchers at McGill University, the test offers a safe, minimally invasive method for the early diagnosis of ovarian and endometrial cancers. It is the only test that can distinguish between cancer cells and non-cancer cells in pre- and post-menopausal women. With its ability to detect cancers as early as stage 1, this revolutionary test will transform the future of ovarian and endometrial cancer detection.

Facts about Ovarian Cancer in Canada

• Endometrial and ovarian cancers account for the top 4 causes of cancer deaths in women and are the most fatal women’s cancers in Canada.
• 1 in 72 women in Canada will be affected.
• Early detection decreases the need for invasive treatments.
• Ovarian cancer is known as the silent killer because its symptoms are often vague and ignored by women.
• The DOvEEgene test is minimally invasive and can identify 1 abnormal cell amongst 1000 normal cells.
• When diagnosed at stage 1, the five-year survival rate for ovarian and endometrial cancers is close to 90%.
• When diagnosed at a late stage, the five-year survival rate for ovarian and endometrial cancers is only 10-30%.

This disease needs much more attention. There are still too many women dying due to late detection and lack of education.
