In October 2022, just a few weeks after our participation in the annual Cedars CanSupport Dragon Boat Race, my darling husband Craig was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at just 55 years old. To say this was an absolute shock to our family and friends is an understatement. Craig seemed to be in fine health. He was an amazing athlete, a conscientious eater and a non-smoker too. But the hard truth is that if you have lungs you can get lung cancer.
Those of you who attended the DragonBoat race in 2023 would have heard Craig deliver his inspiring speech. He was so brave as he described his gratitude for access to the best medical care, and at times he was also very funny despite his grave diagnosis.
Craig lauded Cedars CanSupport for its amazingly helpful services, not the least of which was the psycho-social assistance programmes which helped him learn to accept his diagnosis and to truly LIVE with his cancer.
Sadly, less than a year from his delivery of that speech, Craig died on April 24th, 2024 - just a few short months ago. It is in Craig’s name and at his request that we continue the legacy of raising funds for this important cause.
For the second year, we will have two boats on the canal. Boat 1 is named “Christina Miller Group Craig’s Crew '24” and Boat 2 is the “Craig’s Crew Legacy Boat '24” paddling without him for the first time.
Once again, we invite you to join us in our efforts with your donations and/or your presence on September 7, 2024. We hope you can join for this memorable day of fundraising and friendship.
With gratitude,
Christina, Erika, Justine, and Olivia
